The stage is set for West Virginia's high school "Super Six Football Championships" in all three classes and once again the city that has been host to the title games for the past 13 years is ready to provide an excellent experience for the incoming visitors, or as others say, showing "that Wheeling feeling."
The Super Six title games are not the only reason to travel to Wheeling. There are a variety of local activities that are among some of the best forms of entertainment found in West Virginia.
Fans traveling to watch the Super Six games can take in a hockey game with the Wheeling Nailers hockey team, or take a short driving trip through Oglebay Park and view "The Festival of Lights" night display which is the United States largest display of outdoor lighting on a driving tour of about an hour.
Located next to the stadium is the Wheeling Island Gaming Center, which provides 2,000 free parking spaces and feeds the large number of athletes, is a location where a person can enjoy the thrill of greyhound dog racing and slot machines.
Capitol Music Hall can be found in the downtown area as well as Wheeling's Artisan Center for historical and cultural entertainment. Cabela's World's Foremost Outfitter is a short drive away off Interstate-70, which features a museum quality look at huge aquariums and trophy animal displays.
Also, just 15 minutes south of Wheeling is the old West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, which is known for holding "ghost tours" during the Halloween season.
Eating out is a treat for visitors as the "City of Lights" is host to great restaurants like Undo's, Bella Via, Abbey's, and Figaretti's. They also have places with forms of entertainment in TJ's Sports Garden, River City Ale Works, Generations Pub and the Alpha. Coleman's Fish Market also offers a "famous fish sandwich" worth trying.
Perkins Restaurant and Bakery is also among the quality food servers in the area, as they will be supplying food for the Super Six officials and cheerleaders at the games.
The Super Six committee has put together a fun filled weekend for many students and athletes, but the fun isn't limited to just football, there are many other attractions for those interested.
