Nitro’s Josh Culbertson was named the West Virginia Gatorade Football Player of the Year on Tuesday.
A 5-foot-9, 192-pound senior and two-time all-state selection, Culbertson gained 3,366 yards on 318 attempts and 44 rushing TDs this year. He is the all-time single-season and career leading rusher in state history.
Culbertson, who leads Nitro into the Class AAA championship game against Morgantown Saturday afternoon in Wheeling, is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Player of the Year award, to be announced in mid-December.
